Kris Kross's Chris Kelly Died of Drug Overdose: Medical Examiner.

Kris Kross rapper Chris Kelly died of a drug overdose, an Atlanta-area medical examiner said on Monday. A toxicology screening showed the rapper had a combination of drugs in his system at the time of his death on May 1st, The Associated Press reports. He was 34. 

Paramedics found Kelly unresponsive on a couch in his living room in Atlanta where they failed to rescucitate him. Kelly, who was also known as "Mac Daddy," was pronounced dead at a local hospital a short while later.

Betty Honey of the Fulton County Medical Examiner's office in Atlanta said the specific drugs involved in the rapper's death were unknown, but Kelly's mother told investigators of her son's history of drug abuse, and said that he had used cocaine and heroin the night before his death.
Kris Kross were discovered in a mall by music producer and rapper Jermaine Dupri in 1992. The duo of Kelly and Chris Smith, also known as "Daddy Mac," gained recognition for wearing their clothes backward as a gimmick.
Their 1992 single "Jump" was Kris Kross's most successful song, becoming a chart-topper in the U.S. and abroad. Other hits from the duo included "Warm It Up" and "Tonight's tha Night."
Kris Kross performed in Atlanta earlier this year to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Dupri's record label, So So Def, and Kelly's uncle said the rapper was planning on making a comeback.
